REGINA’S STORY
Regina spent years cycling between being a student, being an employee and being self-employed. Even from her early teenage years, she had numerous interests and found it difficult to choose one educational and professional pursuit. In her early years in college, she found it hard to focus and changed majors several times, never completing enough credits to acquire an educational degree.
She owned several business during this time-span, but never really found an occupation or business that satisfied the aching in her soul. Hundreds of ideas flowed through her brain and all of them were perfectly viable business options. However, after the initial thrill of brainstorming and implementing these new business ideas subsided, she was again ready to embark on another new venture. She just couldn’t seem to find her niche. There were just too many options to choose just one. Everyone told her she needed to grow up and pick a career and stick with it. So she did.
Regina always had a desire to help people and had become a certified medical responder in college. She really wanted to give back to the community and enjoyed being a woman in a male dominated field. She still pursued her other interests, but she decided to pursue a career in government service in the areas of public safety and law enforcement. She remained in that career field for more than fifteen years. While she had enjoyed the freedom of being out on patrol and contributing to her community, she finally burned out and really didn’t know what direction she wanted to go into next.
As it so happened, her last job in law enforcement was as a police officer at a top public university. A benefit of that employer was that employees could attend the university and take two classes tuition-free each semester. So before she resigned, Regina began taking classes in History and Anthropology. She had always been interested in both of these subjects and had always loved learning. In addition, she also received a copy of “Refuse To Choose” by bestselling author Barbara Sher which explained the need to follow so many different things.
Ordinary people would probably have been happy just going to college, but not Regina. She is definitely what Barbara Sher calls a “scanner”. She went to class two days a week and longed for something entrepreneurial to engage herself in the rest of the time. She toyed a little with scrap-booking and card-making but realized that these two things were more hobbies than things she wanted to pursue as a full-time business. She had started an idea journal and quickly filled it with hundreds of creative home-business ideas. As she was reviewing the journal, she had her Aha moment. She finally figured out what she really enjoyed the most was coming up with these unusual ideas and coming up with unique and creative ideas to make money from these ideas. She’d finally discovered her niche.
She immediately jumped in and developed her business model for Enterprising Souls. The rest is history.
